July Highlights at Sunnyside Senior Living | Assisted Living Activities & Resident Life

Showing love to Gale!

Residents enjoying a summer activity together at Sunnyside Senior Living in California.

Gale grew up in Greeley, Colorado, until he was 16 years old, when he moved to Fremont, California. One of his favorite memories is from high school, where he played both football and basketball. His football coach was Bill Walsh, who later became the coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 1979 to 1988.

The job Gale is most proud of was working in dispatch for a trucking company. He also helped move dirt during the building of the Oakland Coliseum, where the Raiders used to play. Growing up, Gale always wanted to be in the trucking business, and he was proud that he got to live out that dream.

His advice to younger generations is to stay faithful to your family and friends.

One of Gale’s favorite foods is a peanut butter, onion, and mayo sandwich on white bread. Something people may not know about him is that he is 6’4”.

What Gale enjoys most about Sunnyside is the family atmosphere. He feels comfortable talking with the staff, enjoys the activities, and says he is very happy here.

What makes Gale smile is his family and gambling.

A fun memory Gale shared is from when the Raiders first started playing. At the time, they didn’t have enough money for cheerleaders, so they used cheerleaders from Washington Union High School. Gale was dating one of the cheerleaders then, which gave him the chance to sit up front and meet some of the Raiders players.

Staff Spotlight ~ Cindy Crystal Fuentes

This month, we’re excited to spotlight Cindy Crystal Fuentes, one of our dedicated caregivers at Sunnyside Senior Living. Cindy has been a valued member of our team for the past six months and brings compassion, positivity, and a caring heart to her role every day.

What Cindy enjoys most about her job is witnessing the impact of small moments and seeing the difference kindness and connection can make in someone’s day.

A fun fact about Cindy is that she loves roller coasters and enjoys a good thrill. One adventure still on her bucket list is skydiving, something she hopes to experience someday.

Outside of work, Cindy enjoys creating party arrangements and putting together party favors. Although she doesn’t get the opportunity often, it’s a creative hobby she truly enjoys whenever she gets the chance.

If Cindy could travel anywhere in the world, she would choose Hawaii because of its beauty and peaceful atmosphere.

Her favorite food is seafood, especially aguachile during the summertime. It’s her go-to meal when the weather gets warm.

One piece of advice that has always stayed with Cindy is, “Be as fierce about guarding your own light as you are about sharing it.”

What makes Cindy smile most is her children and knowing they are healthy and happy. Her kids are also her greatest inspiration, motivating her to keep going and strive to be a better person every day.

When it comes to entertainment, Cindy is a big fan of paranormal and horror movies. Her favorite films are the movies in The Conjuring series.

As a young girl, Cindy dreamed of becoming a cosmetologist like her mother. She later accomplished that goal by attending school for cosmetology and barbering.

We are grateful to have Cindy as part of the Sunnyside family and appreciate the kindness, dedication, and positive energy she brings to our residents and team each day.

Our residents recently enjoyed a wonderful outing to Tammy’s Farm, where we were warmly welcomed by our resident Cora’s daughter for a fun-filled day together. We had the opportunity to participate in several activities, including creating beautiful flower bouquets to take home. One of the highlights of the visit was meeting Lulu, an adorable goat who quickly became everyone’s favorite. It didn’t take long for us to fall in love with her!

A heartfelt thank you to Tammy for opening her farm to us and providing such a warm and memorable experience. We truly appreciated the time spent together and look forward to visiting again!
