October Staff Spotlight

Staff Spotlight: Kaitlyn Nicole Walker

This month, we shine the spotlight on Kaitlyn Nicole Walker, who has been part of the Sunnyside family for over three years. She began as a morning caregiver, moved into the role of afternoon med tech, and now serves as our bus driver for appointments—always bringing her warm personality on the road.

Kaitlyn is known for her kindness and the way she treats every resident like family. She especially enjoys sharing music with residents during bus rides. Outside of work, she relaxes with her Xbox and her pets: a Patterdale terrier, two cats, and two parakeets.

When it comes to favorite foods, Kaitlyn says she can never choose between Smash Bros Burgers and Chili’s. If she could travel anywhere, she’d love to visit Africa. Coming home to her husband and dog always makes her smile, and one thing on her bucket list is to swim with dolphins.

Kaitlyn’s guiding advice is, “Focus on what you can control. Some things happen for a reason—we just don’t see it right now.” Inspired by her husband’s perseverance, she values resilience and enjoys unwinding with Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy on Hulu.

We are grateful for Kaitlyn’s dedication and the light she brings to Sunnyside every day.

From Charles’ Kitchen: Eggs in a Cloud

Charles shows us that with a little creativity, even everyday ingredients can bring a sense of wonder to the table.

Eggs in a Cloud (from Charles)

A fun twist on breakfast with fluffy whites, a golden yolk, and crispy bacon on toast.

Ingredients (per serving):

1 egg (separate yolk and white)

1 slice of toast

2 strips bacon (cooked)

Pinch of salt & pepper

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

2. Beat the egg white with a pinch of salt until stiff and fluffy.

3. Spoon the whipped white onto the toast, shaping a little “nest.”

4. Place the yolk gently in the center and top with bacon.

5. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until whites are golden.

6. Sprinkle with pepper and enjoy warm.

With every bite of Charles’ Eggs in a Cloud, we’re reminded that the simplest meals can become unforgettable when made with love and a little imagination.

At Sunnyside, many of us arrive as strangers, unsure of what to expect. But over time, we discover something priceless—family. Through love, laughter, and support, we’ve built friendships that lift us in joy and carry us through hard times.

What began as strangers has grown into a true family—proof that friendship is one of life’s greatest gifts.

This Assisted Living Week was made extra special thanks to the kindness and generosity of our community partners — hospice, in-home health, and so many others who gave their time and support. From sharing food and treats to joining us in celebration, you helped create moments of joy that our residents and staff will remember.

We are so grateful for the care, compassion, and friendship you continue to show. Your involvement reminds us that we are not alone — we are part of a larger family that truly makes a difference in the lives of our residents
